Battle of Madan Bay

Overview

The Battle of Madan Bay was a coordinated assault by all six Factions of the Expeditionary Corps against the Kraken at Caer Oorun in September 392 AC. The battle resulted in the Kraken’s complete destruction by Kojo Oduro and the subsequent reclamation of the province, ending over two centuries of Leviathan occupation. The engagement was sabotaged by an unknown attacker later identified as Sylas, who destroyed a Yzmir meteor strike and freed the Kraken from containment.

Background

The Kraken had occupied Caer Oorun since approximately 146 AC after defeating Kaibara in a prolonged territorial battle that devastated the province and forced evacuation of its population. The Rediscovery Endeavor launched in September 392 AC with the opening of the Solstice Gate, and the Kraken’s elimination was prerequisite to westward expansion.

The Battle

Grand Admiral Temera Singh used The Ouroboros as bait, racing over churning waves to lure the Kraken into position. All six Factions coordinated in the assault: Aegis infantry, Ordis Scribes, Axiom sappers, Bravos fyrds, Yzmir Battle Mages, and Muna Druids.

Muna forces created massive plant cages from seed bags deployed in the bay to contain the Kraken while Yzmir Battle Mages attempted to call down a meteor strike. An unknown saboteur destroyed the meteor, freeing the Kraken from the plant prison. The sabotage killed Battle Mages Asta and Elewa, and Matera sacrificed herself protecting Afanas Korovinovich during the chaos.

Teija summoned Kaibara, the whale Leviathan, who engaged the Kraken directly. Kojo Oduro gathered massive amounts of Mana, creating localized Tumult conditions. Afanas Korovinovich opened a dimensional portal for Kojo to strike from above. Kojo delivered a blow that vaporized the Kraken entirely, leaving no physical remains—vitrified sand where the Leviathan had stood and nothing else.

Aftermath

Kojo Oduro received the Carnelian Crown, Asgartha’s highest military honor, from Basileus Avkan ruun-Heshkari in November 392 AC. The Age of Rediscovery was formally proclaimed the same month. Caer Oorun was secured and systematically explored, with the Cebir fortress reclaimed in October revealing evidence of esoteric experimentation hidden for centuries.

The Kraken’s complete vaporization—leaving no remains—later contributed to Suha’s investigation concluding the creature was an Eidolon rather than a true Leviathan, a theory supported by Wanjiru in 393 AC. The Qorgan maintained surveillance on Kojo due to concerns about the nature of his strike, which Suha characterized as stripping reality of its essence rather than the transient fire affinity typical of Bravos.
