Gulrang Oduro

Overview

Gulrang Oduro (also known as Gul) is an Ordis Exalt and Alterer who serves as a captain in The Aegis. She is bonded with her Alter Ego Tocsin, a sentient Golem Chimera, through The Musubi ceremony. Gulrang is the older sister of Kojo Oduro, the Slayer of The Kraken.

Early Life and Calling to the Aegis

Gulrang comes from a working family in Arkaster—her mother Tehea is a skilled woodworker from the Wood Guild specializing in ebony, and her father Yawo owns a small grocery store. As a child, Gulrang would accompany her mother to the factory and rush to the window when Aegis sentinels departed on patrol, captivated by their proud bearing. Venka, a veteran injured fighting The Tumult, would visit for dinner and tell countless anecdotes. At twelve years old, Gulrang had already found her calling to become an Aegis sentinel. By fourteen, when Kojo was barely two, she heard about the Expeditionary Corps from street criers. She convinced her parents to let her join by promising to take care of the house and Kojo for four years. Venka began training her in a busy daily routine—rising at dawn, preparing breakfast, escorting Kojo to school, attending classes, managing meals, and training in what she needed for the Ordis armed forces. She increased muscle mass, trained in weapon handling, studied laws, and learned Heka Glyphs.

Rise Through the Ranks and Meeting Tocsin

Gulrang’s trajectory within the Ordis hierarchy was spectacular—from cadet to recruit in months, then official Trooper in two years. She was marked with the Faction’s Diamond, opening her to the Hive Mind. During a Tumult surge at The Rampart, two Chimeras materialized—one infused into a stone statue (Golem) and another took the form of a griffin. A rock block hurtled toward Gulrang, but the animated statue raised its arm to protect her. The griffin pounced on the Golem, and Gulrang used Heka to create marble spikes that pierced the griffin’s flank. The Golem was captured, and Gulrang visited it in its cell. Using Heka Glyphs, they managed to initiate conversation. After weeks of dialogue, they developed a puzzling rapport. When Gulrang brought it a trumpet, the Chimera produced cacophonous notes—she gave it the name Tocsin.

Musubi Bond and Family

Over time, Gulrang and Tocsin increasingly aspired to understand each other. The Musubi naturally imposed itself on them, and Tocsin accepted without hesitation. Through the Hive Mind, others could converse with Tocsin. When she introduced Tocsin to her family, she discovered Kojo had also taken in a Chimera. During the ceremony where Kojo received the Carnelian Crown, Gulrang teased him about his recklessness.

Gulrang commanded Ordis forces during Belisenki night assault on convoy traveling toward Storvhit base camp, coordinating through The Gestalt while issuing orders and tracing Heka symbols. She engaged approximately 40 Belisenki attacking from northern sector using hyperbola formation, deploying shield walls and interception teams while unstable terrain prevented Axiom artillery support. During individual combat, Gulrang parried Belasenka attack and witnessed creature use minor Alteration creating jagged ice spikes, responding with Heka symbols solidifying snow into marble columns trapping enemy and amplifying shrillness to scatter swarm. Gulrang is stoic and martial in demeanor, contrasting sharply with her exuberant brother Kojo. She shows perseverance, dedication, and determination. She is skilled in Heka Alteration, able to inscribe Glyphs into stone to create marble spikes and other constructs. Despite her stern exterior, she cares for her family and rose to captain in The Aegis through her own merit.
